sandvich, boots for demo and soldier, demoknight, huntsman, jarate, flare gun, that one spy watch where you can stand still
that's all you need to appease 99% of players

When people say "vanilla" I imagine what they mean is up until like the Dues Ex update or w/e
(granted I still think it will be fun because non-autistic TF2 doesn't exist anymore full-stop)
I'd play tf2 that was just tf2 up to about when MvM came out

tf2 is at its best when you are just playing some random server, with 23 other strangers, and its just chaos of the intermingling of people of various skill levels doing shit
server-based FPS, without an XP grind or FOMO
that's not being microbalanced everymonth to chase some comp scene meta
I have about 1.3k hours in it spread across like 2011-2014ish
