Okay hear me out
so your steam library gets replaced by these digital cards right
and you can only have one in the system at a time
and you can lend them to someone, but then you cannot use it
and you have to manually load and unload every steam game
I mean, it goes against their entire company value proposition so I understand why lmao
Last physical pc game I bought required me to make a steam account to play it (Civ 5) so I just never bought another physical PC game again
My pc does still have a disk drive though
so I could, in theory, use it

This is the best set out of the Dota 2 event. Except I dont play MH, I dont play techies, and I dont want to grind X amount of games to craft it. I still might play because the hunting log concept is fun and just a better version of the WK Arcana quest. I know you all wanted to know this.

Steamlink was abandoned too early, I had one and it was frustrating but was 100x easier than other gamecasting options
they moved to app-based, but then smartTVs and androidTV kept rugpulling them, and in the end they sorta needed it to not even attempt to work over 2.4GHz wifi, leading to them just dropping development of it.
The in-home streaming market is WAAAYYYY bigger than people think (look at Playstation Portal), being able to easily cast to a 2nd screen/device elsewhere in your house. Steam needs to simplify this, and them not releasing a Steam-branded TVstick is a little disappointing. If the SteamCube is super portable and boots fast (like the deck) it will work, you can technically do in-home streaming using just the deck currently but it's not ideal because pairing an external controller and non-natively scaling is kinda underbaked.
The orignal Steam controller is the only controller I've ever liked, though I think the design of the new one looks worse than the original (as well as the Deck's and Index's) I still don't really ever want to use a controller, but I'll probably pick one up to have one. The dedicated puck is smart (like what Logitech and Razer do for their peripherals), as long as it can easily pair to open standards as well it'll get some use. If it presents as a PnP USB mouse/trackpad to normal machines I'll actually pop off because that would come in handy so fucking often.
SteamCube overall, I'll have to see the final price, but I'm going to struggle to see it's value over the hypothetical in-home casting device I wish they'd revive
No thoughts on the VR headset, I'll wait to hear more about it. I accept inside-out tracking is unfortunately the future, but I'm more interested in the AppleVision AR market at this point anyway
oh and to what Max said earlier, I wish Valve would change how they do "remote-play together"
it's works, but it's a bad experience and it's really opaque what games can even really use it well
Even though it would reduce total compatibility, I'd much rather it require an actual steamworks plugin devs had to implement
because yeah, half the battle is just figuring out if a game has couch co-op to begin with, and then if that's not broken seeing if it's fully functional over the internet w/ remote-play together

In home streaming between devices is definitly huge, idk about casting to a TV. I dont think a firestick adjacent device would be enough to run anything meaningful smoothly, but i could definitely be wrong. I think one of my TVs had a Steam app, but it was so dog shit I cant tell you what it actually did, maybe im just making that up. Also while I dont really like controllers, i think theyre just better in some games. My only wish is that if I'm going to spend 70 dollars or more on a controller it was actually made for the hands of a normal human and not like a tiny baby 12 year old.
low-latency (in-home) game streaming actually works pretty well and requires very little processing
issue is that smart home/TV stuff is notoriously bad for high-throughput over wifi, and devices which can take a direct ethernet connection often throttle it or don't tag packets correctly
so a dedicated device works really well, an app leaves you sorta at the mercy of the manufacterer (who usually only have to plan arround a buffered TLS stream that AT MOST will require 2mbps
where in-home quality streaming is more like 20mbps
