Visa and Mastercard have finally begun fucking with Valve

There are ~30 people who control Mastercard/Visa (who are at the top of the entire financial pyramid)
They have total control and enjoy fucking with
1) Things they don't like
2) People they don't like
3) Punishing entities that have crossed them
There's really not any more to it that that
It's not about image, it's not about "high risk" processing or charge backs
It's all personal

I don't even think the US will be the last to root out the monopoly of the payment networks, it's such an easy way to bump the GDP and start rolling back the unsustainable debt US citizens have
Visa/MC will still exist, don't misunderstand
But the payment networks and the credit bureaus will be nationalized
So businesses can process payments without giving Visa/MC 5% of every transaction (and as a side benefit, freedom of speech protections or w/e)
Government won't start issuing consumer debt directly, but with open networks more banks can just offer their own CCs
And debit cards 100% won't be processed by Visa/MC
Will probably also speed up ACH as a side benefit
