My conclusion is it's actually a pretty good game once you get into it
But there are so many QoL things they just didn't fucking bother with that it's kinda weird
Also, they finally subcomed to industry pressure, and fucked up the Steam version of their soundtrack and art book

Im glad its good at least, none of my friends seemed too excited for it even though we had a lot of fun on the ER co-op mod. I decided id rather drop 40 on Deltarune first, if not id play with you
it's also a game that will be 10x better in a couple months
I don't think they'll do most of the QoL stuff I want
but this is FromSoft's baby step towards a sort of live service
and they've talked about doing performance and balance fixes
^ that's a huge want for me, but never going to happen

they did say they're working on duos
honestly, here's my opinion
the best time to pick this game up will be at the end of the year, 6 months of fixes and content, and you'll get the big wave of new players to matchmake with
the edge launch has is everyone is kinda shit at the game together, and it's not very tryhard
I could imagine this being cancer though, if it gets sweaty like pub L4D2 got
despite being a fun, mostly casual co-op game
ig they should have released Yooka-Laylee 3
rather than doing nothing for 5+ years
still sad though
They should have never removed Jontron
that was what led to this

The difficulty variance in the bosses is kinda crazy
or rather, of the 7, one requires a very specific world event buff, and one is just really overtuned

Nightreign gets to the Risk of Rain point where you figure out the way you are meant to play after 10-15 hours or so, and then runs are this fun flow state
meta progression is weird, it's semi-rewarding but is very Japanese and poorly organized and has a bad UI
I think ror2 sorta stumbled on how important multiple map variants was (I remember the devs being surprised by how much more fun it made things
and I don't think Nightreign does a good job at that, and is prety weird with what they decide to randomize run-to-run in general
The characters (mechanically) are the best part of the game, and I wish they had committed to adding more quicker
loot is the weird part
Equipment you're mostly hunting for passives, and because of how upgrades work you're not really going to be switching around weapons in the middle of a fight much (unless you're playing a caster)
accessories are complete RNG given how few drops you'll get in a run, and how specific they are
and the consumable pool is full of so much trash it's not even worth bothering unless you have a lot of downtime
^ that's for loot in the world
the drops you get from beating bosses work better
I wish it was easier to quickdrop your pick on the ground though, when it's for someone else
oh, and game length
45 minutes or w/e seems fine, and the power-per-level gain feels paced about right
they could have made the # of days variable, and let you press your luck kinda like ror looping
but a good team will clear the map as it is in 2 days
They desperately need a surrender function, because you can identify a lost run in the first ~5 minutes, and there's no way to force the game to end early, so all 3 players will just idle and wait for the night 1 fight, 20 minutes in and let it end the game then
other than that, just a lot of small QoL stuff, fixing the queues, and the voice/text chat that we'll never get
OH, and for the love of God change how rezing people works
Game takes 40-60 hours to "beat" as far as I can tell
hard to quantify that in number of runs, because some of the quests don't require clearing everything
and as far as characters go, all 8 are fairly viable
Witch could use an ability rework, but can definitely still contribute
Bird's shield and Executioner's katana ability are both rarely built around, but the rest of their kit works despite this
