yeah, they actually lose more than just the out front dev cost
because of opportunity cost of not making things that could earn
the idea that their Tier 1 studios, who made God of War, has had their A and B projects killed, and Naughty Dog their A team project killed

yes, they were doing a GoW universe game thing

they specifically didn't want to do a Ragnarok sequel
some other studio is doing the GoW 1-3 remakes, in their engine
but the A team was doing the multiplayer GoW, and the B team was making a new IP
both canceled
Sony just put actual retards in charge at the management level, and it blew up on them spectacularly
we thought it was just Sony of America being retarded in California 5-10 years ago
but the entire company top-to-bottom in Japan was just absolutely being run by retards
I don't think Microsoft is much better off mind you
they've done less with more in terms of resources and marketshare
but at least their failure has been pretty publicly owned at this point
Ubisoft is going to be bought for pennies the next year, Square Enix isn't far behind, Sony is going to be underwater, Microsoft is going to have the chain of gamepass strangle their game developments
and I personally think the Switch 2 is going to do "just alright" for Nintendo
even if Nintendo does better, and it's just Spooky FUD
Nintendo is the one of the only studio with a positive outlook
Capcom and KT are in good shape, as smaller JP publishers
but the rest of the industry is literally coming apart
and I think the crash will be brutal
idk specifically, my memory is they're smaller than Capcom and KT
but in general, the smaller publishing outfits are probably in a better position to not get dragged underwater by their ongoing costs
