even if it's not a true narrator, I also like games where your characters inner monologue is voiced

that's why I like W3's dialogue so much I think
well it's selective in W3
but yeah, I think it's a cheaty way to get good dialogue into a game

I think the other issue is that most studios that would do a narrorator end up going "WHY DONT WE HAVE A PLUCKY SILLY CHARACTER THAT CONSTANTLY JUST TALKS TO YOU INSTEAD AND MAKES JOKES"

I like LiS1, I think the dialogue is stupid but the overall story works with it
everything after that is a meme though

I'm even ok if the choice is literally between "on this run, do you want character X or Y to be your buddy"
and there are only minor story changes, it's just a different NPC you get to interact iwth

any game where you get skill checks that unlock "perfect solutions"
even too a point, I was annoyed in BG3 when a dialogue tree would have a bunch of possible dialogue "outcomes"
but 8 would result in identical combat encounters, and 1 would result in nothing, things were solved peacefully
BG3 would do a good job in other places, where the combat encounter would change based on the tree, and there was no skill check auto-win
