Bungie's Marathon Appears To Be Targeting $40 Launch Price
According to The Game Post, Bungie is considering launching their newest project, Marathon, with a $40 launch price.
wccftech.comI missed this news, Bungie pivoted Marathon from F2P to a $40 game
ig this probably helps with cheating/bots, but I feel like this is the wrong move for something vying for players who have extreme sunk cost in other similar games
I want a non-tdm, non-tarkov MP shooter
I just feel like Marathon is such an easy slam dunk, if they don't fuck it up
A 2 dollar price will have like 70% the same effect on cheaters/bots
any hurdle greater than nothing is sufficient
from time to time I wonder if there are other business models that would be appealing
But I really do think most MP games need to be <$15 all-in,
There are only a small handful of *new* games that are successful beyond that, with most being huge franchise IPs
and I can't think of the last twitchy SP fps that was worth playing, I'm prob missing something obvious
but other than Doom and the emerged boomer shooter genre (which imo aren't twitchy)
you know what, credit to splatoon, it's got a really good campaign
that can go on the fps list
idk what I even describe as "twitchy" tbh
I was thinking about how to bin fps's
you've got the slow boomer shooter ones
that tactical tom clancy ones for sure
and then there are pure gunplay shooters versus ability shooters (like overwatch)
horde shooters are dead, and are closer to boomer shooters anyway
rail shooters too
ig there is a super niche hunting genre
but mostly I think those first 3 are part of the fps "genre"
if it's not tactical or a boomer shooter, I'm just labeling it as "twitchy"
the overlap between that and farming sim
I'm telling you
^^^
true
Space Marine 2 also did better than I was expecting it too,
it's going to sell in the 4-5M range
which is VERY solid
I think Deadlock and Overwatch have saturated the space 100%
I do think if Marathon slips, there will be a rush of other extraction games
