most interesting part to me was
this is their skill distribution
each block is 10% of the playerbase
it's a long paper I've not read all of
but their conclusion is basically
"when we removed skill based matchmaking, every bracket other than the top 10% had a worse experience"
That makes sense
skill based matchmaking basically recreates that chart in discrete bins
they found that more people quit (don't play again for 14 days) due to bad matchmaking versus longer queue times
so yeah, lot of obvious findings
I still think server browsers and open lobbies are superior to queue-based matchmaking
for sure
but I think this is for 6v6 competitive ladder
or something like that
