Replying to Dialga #god_of_time
Polu and I were discussing this (and numerous other best of all time lists) last night
I can conceed that Lara croft (classic design, not modern hyper realistic one) should be at least somewhere near the top 20
but not number 1, no that is insane
that list is more crazy because obviously no Baluder's Gate 3 character should be anywhere close to that list, and that is entirely recency bias
I think the actual condenders who should be near the top are mario, sonic, pikachu, pacman (original arcade design). Fundamentally, things that are the most iconic need to be instantly recognizable regardless of art style just based on character design alone
that rules out any hyper realistic game (last of us, modern laura croft, red dead 2 guy, nathan drake)
Master cheif is tought, he is a similar tier to doom guy in my mind
I think I could see him in the top 20 maybe, top 100 for sure
Agent 47 is not even the most recognizable bald man in gaming
ignore the rock
Link is kind of iconic, but I do not think even he breaks the top 20
You really need your basic designs that can be represented with just colour outlines
Sackboy could be argued on the list, if this list came out 10 years ago
LBP is not culturally relevant at all now
I think its a better choice than most of the list
