like the function that does when youre "in range" (i.e. for threatened etc.) probably also runs checks when you enter said range

like do they have a defensive thing, shoudl threatened be applied, or should they attack with polearm master

and since polearm master is there, and that enemy has a polearm

it gives you the choice

they didnt have people beta test it, because this and a bunch of other feats weren't in EA

you argubly might like the combat more/better

i really dont particualrly love divinities action point system and how it basically makes action economy the main focus

and combat devolving into how to chain your stuns or take out dangerous enemies

but the writing, fights, story, amount of bugs, puzzles etc.

are all much worse than dos2

im very suprised they advertised your choices matter as much as they did, because argubly this is one of the few games ive played where realistically no matter what you do every outcome is the same

that is completely against the spirit of table top roleplaying

your choices effect something on a small scale, but they dont actually change the story

or provide you with much

divinity railroads you for act one so ill give act 1 a pass, but divinity also lets you skip everything, kill or side with anyone in the game without any issues, you can swear to the god king and gain the curse ability etc. etc.

you are quite literally not allowed to be evil here at all

but if you are good, your choices involved with being "good" are empty and nonexistent

theres no morally dubious choices either, its just "good" or "bad"

but if you just want gameplay fights its fine

though argubly less creative and interesting battles but not neciisarilly a bad thing

the early access portion is act 1, it came out a few years ago and has gotten small updates each update- its sort of jarring in some places bceause you can see the artifical divide from when they worked on some things, and the newer content feels slightly different- but in general act 1 feels pretty refined and bug free

and then the non-early access content just becomes entirely broken sometimes

i encountered 3 wrongwarps, and spooky found another

quests break, characters break

for their sake i hope act 2 was done last and act 3/baulders gate itself is extremely refined

and the combat is significantly better

that system feels a little underbaked

I think the combat overall synergizes better, maybe that's good class balance or having a good system to borrow from in 5e
