The slipping is caused by the way the game handles being momentum & being airborne. Specificially, if one foot is above ground then the player will become airborne and the player's momentum will be conserved, causing the slipping effect at edges. This was not intended originally and was caused by a change, but was kept to add more flavour to the gameplay.
