Replying to Kribbles #kribbles1 My mom said Theo of Golden is really good, but the story felt like an old man's wet dream, coming into a new community and helping solve problems with all his wisdom. It felt too... contrived. Granted, I only got about 100 pages in.

So, I finished book 1 of Spice and Wolf
Pretty short, finished it last night in one sitting.
It's definitely at its best as a travel/commerce story. The action scenes at the end felt out of place in this type of story. If there's going to be a lot more action, I'm not really interested.

I just assumed anyone I'd be talking to about this would have seen the anime
I mean there is some like, fight scenes in the anime, but its a lot of traveling and merchanting too
The S&W novel is great, also have never read the manga (aside from maybe a couple chapters randomly)

From the LOGH books perhaps the biggest consequence of Trunicht surrendering the Alliance to Reinhard (which I have to spoilertag since apparently some people don't follow the bookclub) is that we never get to see long-haired Yang since following the Fortress vs Fortress arc, Yang stops cutting his hair to spite the government. But after the war ends, Frederica forces Yang to cut his hair.
Since no one has said any random book trivia lately.

long story short for the second page, ever since Bewcock became the first person to not to bother pronouncing Soon's last name, Soon Soulzzcuaritter legally changed his last name to "Soul" (despite the name-change profaining his ancestors).
Which I can only say now since we've gotten to the point in the story after Soon's name change.
