no, what happened is the following
Pika thinks "everyone is here. I will post this."
He then types the first part of his message.
However he then thinks "wait, what if the full cast is not actually here?"
So he places his eye cursor on the leftmost figure and begins to verify one by one left to right that each member of the cast is there.
But he wants to save his memory since he has a lot of other things on his mind, so he decides that he'll forget each character's name after he recognizes it, and instead just remember how many of the cast members appeared.
When his eye seeks to the end and verifies the last character, he knows that the whole cast is there because the number he counted is the same as the cast size.
But there's a problem... Because he didn't remember the names of each one, he doesn't know what to write in the message!
He thinks "I COULD return my eye cursor to the beginning, and then go from left to right and write the name of each character. BUT, then I would end up moving twice the amount..."
He realizes that in order to best preserve the number of uses of his eyes, which can only traverse a fixed number of degrees in their lifetime, it's more efficient to instead write the name of the characters in reverse order starting from his current position at the right.
What actually happed is I wanted to end with mr. midnight

It's more of a personal story, it's fascinating. The writer was a Peace Corps volunteer for Uzbekistan for 3 months before he got culture shock and pleaded to go home, and then some years later, he decided to go back and visit the friends he made. The book is half history and half a travel blog. If you enjoy the travel blogs from mattlakeman.org then this book is a much more in-depth version of those blogs.
It says it's about the Aral Sea, but don't expect to hear about it for more than 30 or so pages. It's mainly an introduction of the history of Uzbekistan.
He recommended this last night and I am going to actually read it

Not enough book recommendations in here
I read the book Dignity: https://www.amazon.com/Dignity-Seeking-Respect-Back-America/dp/0525534733 It's a brutal book about the towns in middle America that got completely destroyed by the east/west coasts once the factories and mills got off-shored to be a little cheaper.
I editorialized it for sure, but that's the gist of what happens. He interviews hookers, homeless people, drug addicts, etc. in the worst of the worst places and asks general questions like what you want in life and what your plans are.
started reading the apothecary diaries ln series recently, pretty good. good translation from jnovel club, always enjoy the translator's notes
And right now I'm reading the short stories by Algernon Blackwood like The Willows and The Wendigo. I think those are the most popular short stories.

Did you read Lawrence of Arabia's journal? I really loved the movie, tried to read the book and woof it was a tough one.

Lawrence of Arabia's writing is impenetrable
it's this weird dilemma, because his writing and translations are historically super notable and awesome
but they are impossible to get through
It felt like a historical textbook
As in, like, a book that historians love
A lot of the British explorers (by virtue of learning a fuckton of languages) did a ton of work translating local stories and texts
and despite that, most of them are criminally underutilized for whatever reason

Currently reading “There is no Antimemetics Division”, an SCP story that was turned into an independent book. It’s quite interesting so far. If you haven’t heard of SCP before I’d recommend that too, it’s a nice mix of silliness, sci fi and horror

That's funny, I heard about this from somewhere else recently and read all of the SCP stories. Didn't know it was an independant book. It was a very good read though.

the SCP lore/world is honestly pretty great, but since it was always collaborative, as it became more and more popular it became impossible to gatekeep
