https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwKNrL2n7nM I was watching this video essay on a Death Note seen, and it makes a really dumb tangent going on about the "kuleshov effect", which is a technique this essay acknowledges wasn't even used. (i.e. cutting back to a reaction shot that you already used to mean something else). And it then proceeds to go "BUT WHAT IF THEY DID DO IT, WHAT WOULD THE SCENE MEAN THEN" I'm like "The fuck" if you're going to analyze the shot composition of a work, and you yourself change the shots used in this composition, at that point you're just analyzing your own fanfiction.

Also reusing footage, would just make the show look cheap. AND LAZY. Recycling footage for a different effect doesn't make something more meaningful, it would just mean the animators are slacking off, which is beneath the standards we hold Death Note to.

I don't see people analyzing Gundam Wing saying "WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN TROWA BLOWS UP THE LEOS the exact same way but with different backgrounds, in 4 to 7 different episodes".

Not this scene (L in the Rain (episode 25 or 26)) since it's anime original, there isn't any internal monologue. This gives youtubers the capability to wank out WHAT DOES THIS MEAN and WHAT ARE ITS THEMES and TECHNIQUES USED TO DEMONSTRATE THOSE THEMES for 30 minutes.
