I've been keeping up with Ranma and Dandandan

I'm surprised that two ecchi anime are so popular rn

They've been doing well on netflix afaik

how is barbie-doll anatomy considered ecchi?

I mean, theres no nipples but its very much in your face

It was rated MA at first but it got switched to 14+

which I think makes a lot more sense, but still I can see why

yeah, it's a good remake, but it's missing some of the edge for sure

I don't even think it's just the nipple censorship either

I never saw the original so I wouldn't know

But it's kind of funny how it seems very slice of lifey but still has some attacks make cuts and stuff

the issue with Ranma, is it's such a fucking long series, back from an era where you could have filler episodes and people wouldn't click off

now though, I just think it's too meandering to get the sort of cult following the original had

I'm mixed, it seems like its moving really fast, but I also hear that these 5 episodes have essentially been the "prologue"

And there've already been a couple parts where I thought it was dragging a bit. But the color and animation are nice so I don't mind too much.

yeah, I'm hopeful they tighten things up versus the original later on, but it's been good so far

I'd never rec someone go watch the 1989 version at this point, but so far I could see saying the new one is worth a watch

Dandandan is cool too although I think I've done myself a disservice by watching the dub

I still prefer it subbed but I can enjoy it still in English

I prefer most things subbed. When I finally get around to watching Frieren I'll watch it subbed I think

English VAs cannot do "monotone" characters very well

I default to subbed but if I come across dubbed clips and like the voices enough I’ll switch

OnK : zero character development, retarded character decisions, and a lack of exploring any character's emotions or circumstances It stopped being about the entertainment industry half-way through, it never committed to exploring the paranormal at all, and narrative consistancy is genuinely some of the worst I've ever read

the only praise I'll give it, is that Aka is good at writng scenes that inject levity in a good way

Ruby getting her black stars was the character development of the show

the symbolism is a literal meme

for the entire series

everything to do with names, or eyes, or other shit were all dropped

they started with one sharingan a piece and eventually awakened the second, then got the mangakyo later

but he gave us the mephisto meme

so we're supposed to clap like he's a genius

genuinely, zero of the characters had any sort of growth, despite having entire plot threads setup for them to do that

they were all just dropped

Aqua/Ruby's adoptive mom is honestly the only character who got any sort of growth

Mem sort of got some, in a jokey way

Akane grew in her introductory arc

But, Ruby stopped being a character, Akane became Aka's self-insert narrative device, Kana waffled for the entire series, and Aqua...

then she gets too smart for her own good and nothing happens with that
