In Virginia, they're almost all named after the region, or famous (Virginian) people
Virginia runs the gambit, we have a LOT of famous people
since we founded the USA
but there are plenty of writers, inventors, poets, etc. as well
and then we have all the confederates
Confederate names are mostly limited to those who helped with reconstruction (which was most of them)
The few who tried to keep fighting, are blackballed pretty hard
People not from VA, don't understand our history
so all the transplants want to whitewash our history because DATS RAYCIST
But I would struggle to find a better state who understands, then the state where the entire fucking war was fought
I think it's also the reason we have the best gun laws in the country
