I think the drawback is how much time all of this takes
I wish I would of had the chance to try smithing

I talked to some guys who were on the show, and all they did was rant about how it wasn't "pure" anymore

The guys who compete on the show are total rednecks, it's not like they're professionals or anything

I can't say I've watched the show in forever
Networks make it too hard to watch these kind of shows
DIY, Food Netork, HGN, AWE, etc.
From what ive learned from the show either swords are lame and would break after cutting like 2 peoples arms off, or its just a really hard art and all these rednecks are shit at it

it was more about on-camera presence, when they were casting
it's the same problem that the TV game show Jeopardy has
really qualified people, have to take acting lessons, before they're let on the show
an actual sword would take some effort to break
swords where never super sharp
you could hold the blade and not be cut
you could probably slide on a normal sword and not cut unless it was just sharped or something
most swords where thick so they would be sturdy
My sword will have 10 pommels
