A runaway trolley is heading at 5 innocent people, who happen to be walking along the abandoned tracks. You can save them, but not without collateral damage. The only way to save their lives is to push a large man off of a bridge, which spans the tracks. After he falls, the trolley will crash into him, slowing to a halt before it hits the five people in danger. You are 100% sure that this method will work, and you are 100% sure that this is the only way their lives can be saved. What do you think is the right thing to do in this situation?
my response: The right thing to do would be to save the 5 people by pushing the large man off the bridge because saving the lives of 5 people while endangering 1 life is generally considered the better outcome as more lives will be saved when compared to loosing 5 lives while preserving 1.
