If it's their full time thing I can understand why they feel the need to be compensated, however, it's youtube's obligation to pay them based on ad revenue, not the viewer's job by some imaginary metric. That said, if people want to reward people they enjoy watching, and enough people request it if it doesn't already exist, there should be some agreed upon method of the viewers supporting said content creator

I don't watch ads, I don't believe in ads, I believe in the next decade ads will substantially disapear (in the way that we know them)
I would like; at the YouTube level for example, them to implement a system that allows me to set a monthly amount (say $10)
And allow me to star individual videos as well as whole channels to receive a share of that amount
If I want to be choosy, and only star a couple videos and a few channels each gets a bigger slice
if I want to treat it like 'likes' and I star fucking everything I watch, they I'm free to use it in that way as well
flawed system, could be improved
I know
I just hate one-off donations, because they aren't tied to anything in particular, and Patreon rewards people for future work, or regardless of the quality of what they put out
I want a way to tie a financial incentive, to doing good work
And I get, the real money is in whale chasing
offering perks for private chats or whatever on Patreon
Most are, and the ones that charge you by video might as well be monthly
rob took 2 breaks in 12 years
if that is not a workaholic I do not know what is
SummoningSalt is a good example, I don't want to pay the guy monthly, or per-video or whatever
but I've watched a few videos of his that I liked
I'd like to be able to financially reward him
without forcing him to whore himself out on Patreon
I want him to keep making videos, and I think it would be healthy to monetarilly reward him for past good videos
"disabling adblock" is a joke, but it gets to the right spirit
Some of the time, I want people to earn money from what they're doing
I don't want to pretend to be the arbitrator of what should/shouldn't get made
but I want to reward people for making shit I like
and not 0.00000001 cents that ads pay

Open Collective
The Internet generation needs organizations that reflect who we are; where anybody can contribute to a shared mission; where leaders can easily change; and where money flows in full transparency. Create an Open Collective for your community.
