Let me tell you, it doesn't work when it makes a huge fire arena around you and any sort of knockback or attack at all can push you into it. I also find the shield a waste of spirit emblems in that fight, as well as a way to loose my focus on the fight. It's much easier to run around his legs counter clockwise.
