i have ideas for that
can have 3 companions
call it beast master
make it as close to pokemon without ever mentioning anything relating to it
each companions has a type
"type"
do you want to do dual types?
because I think monotype is fine
not that much effort into it

water has like hydropump ofr something
fire flamethrower
basic special moves for each type

how about no explicit types, but each of the current companion beasts and new ones get special abilities

all the class can be without being too complicated is controlling monsters for their turn and capturing them
so we give the beast master 1 companion "fire" "grass" or "water"
and then they can tame more

thats the starting equipment
and they can use basic attacks
or special attcks
based on their "type"
probably have some utiliy abilitys too
like a dmg buff
or shield
heal
that kinda thing
whatever companion monsters have normally plus one
maybe an aoe too
and give the "trainer" x ammount of heal items for their "pokemon"

and random people come out and put you in combat at random
