I absolutely believe that we need better teachers above better curriculum or whatnot from the government. Better teachers can make do with anything they're given.

They have good benefits, but they definitely are not making very much, at least in my area. I’m friends with a good number of teachers.

Ok but teachers don’t even get paid very much. Why are you doing it unless you actually want to? Polar_ Teaching isnt a respected profession and for every 1 passionate teacher ive met, there have been like 4 who are simply there to hangout and collect a check

Too many students legitimately believe that math is useless and boring and that a massive failure on the part of teachers

legit a high school I went to recently said, along the entire school (including the AP classes) they legit just NEVER give homework with the justification being "Well, they don't do it anyway" I really had to hold back from smacking those teachers

I mean, not everything can be taught in school anyway though, there is a certain level of knowledge that just has to be taught at home

Yes, I agree, I'm just saying that the actual teachers who would be teaching the lower levels here absolutely will not be trying very hard

A lot of the issues we have with tracking currently is that teachers kinda just don't care about the lower levels of students, and that would absolutely continue with the system you're discussing. That's obviously difficult to fix, but still, teachers need to do better.

yeah, separate tracking I agree with for them, I just think that that tracking level needs to still TRY to make something out of them, don't just make it a daycare completely

low-functioning special needs kids can absolutely still be taught to do basic jobs, like working retail, rather than them sitting and being a burden on their families.

I worked with low-functioning special needs in special education elementary classes actually. They are far more "daycare" obviously.

I do agree that our education, starting at the elementary levels, needs a massive restructuring if you want it to actually be efficient, but straight up removing 15% of the population is not going to be acceptable.

I completely agree actually, I didn't learn stats until college, and only barely at that, but stats is incredibly useful.

In my area, most students take physics junior year

We're already teaching physics extremely late into education, so I'm fine with moving that up, but it's still difficult to just shift EVERYTHING forward a few years.

differentiation and integration are also closely tied to physics, so it's a lot easer to understand those concepts once you've taken physics

you can't just teach kids complex things earlier and say, well, we taught it, so they'll learn it

kids literally cannot understand abtract thinking as easily

I just think algebra requires a lot of abstract thinking that's not necessarily easy for kids to understand.

That's also only for the top gifted students. Even with how slow we go, most normal students aren't even able to do algebra in middle school.

I agree that there's a lot of elementary redundancy, but I don't think you could reach calc that early.

no way I could've done calc in 6th, and I did the fastest math path available to me, which was algebra in 7th.
