its due to the river. all the towns in those counties are on the river that divides michigan from wisconsin

yeah i live in the next county over Kribbles I remember hearing that Michigan is in eastern time because they wanted to keep it on the same timezone as NYC to keep a constant time for shipping across the great lakes. And so it was a massive jump from living in the UP to Rhode Island and the sky gets light at like 4:30a
