There's too many distractions, and even if you achieve your goal, 10000 people have done it before you, and faster/better
well yeah but that same shit goes for everyone so all that really matters at the end of the day is just doing it because you'd like to do it
bob vent
it's not an entirely foregone conclusion to not do something with the intent to improve just because someone else has already done it better

That's more or less the answer I get, but if you're "doing it for yourself" what's wrong with just kicking back, coasting, and only consuming instead of creating? I enjoy doing the easy thing way more than the hard thing, and the hard thing isn't even fulfilling to do these days in most cases

I mean, that's entirely personal. Many people find the struggle rewarding. If you don't. then I don't think you need to do anything difficult.

bullshitting around the thing you're interested in and making it work the way you specifically want it to work

It is, but there's only so much enthusiasm you got in the tank for these kinds of things

I'm just saying I'm kinda in the same boat. I'm incredibly lazy and I don't put effort into anything and honestly I don't think that's a bad thing.

I was banging my head against the ranked grind on dota 2 with no measurable success until I decided one day to just sit back, relax, and try to inherit some of the knowledge that I could from my games
bob vent
after a 2 day break of replay reviewing and looking up guide content for the guys I wanted to play I then proceeded to hit a 6 game winstreak
bob vent
if the mid player on my team is retarded and feeding I can't personally make him not be that, but I can attempt to increase my own impact on the game to make up for what we lack
bob vent
so much shit in life though is really just based on doing something and then finding like-minded humans who are doing that same thing

Other people's perspective on my "productivity" is not related to my fulfillment in life, and that is even further removed from anything related to my job or any professional accolades

A lot of people get hung up on the "value" they can produce, or struggle with needing an explicit external reward/validation to make something worth doing
Yes, this is it, and I have no clue how to fix that
bob vent
you have to come to terms with the fact that it really doesn't mean anything. like, who gets to decide what your value is when you can't do it for yourself and have to rely on others to do it for you? Who in the world could have that much authority? nobody, really. that's why you have to attribute value to yourself as you think is appropriate

i am in academia so I need to publish to stay employed

I have a hard time putting why I like making things into words because saying "I like to make art" sounds GAY as FUCK
bob vent
I'm known to make some of the lowest effort shit imaginable just because I will laugh my ass off at it for at least ten minutes straight and then feel pride whenever I see it again
bob vent
most things are made for the self and have the nice side effect of being able to resonate with others who think similarly
