The reason this person feels like a fat fucking slob is because they are. It frustrates me so fucking much that people let themselves get obese and that bitch about issues that are because of/worsened due to said obesity.

1) No healthcare is "free." You're either paying for it, paying for your insurance, or taxes are paying for your insurance. 2) Health insurance doesn't cover dental in the US, along with a huge amount of other countries. That's a separate insurance plan. 3) The reason dental is not covered so many places and is separate insurance is because the rate of dental trips for serious issues versus things like routine cleanings or an occasional filling are so low that it'd be a gigantic money sink for insurance companies/tax payers to include dental in health insurance. It's so far from essential the majority of the time, most dental things are easily preventable by just brushing your teeth regularly, so having people have regular trips to the dentist covered by any health insurance will drive the price of any insurance/taxes up so much to compensate.

I know we've probably had this debate a million times, but I don't know why we're so adverse to paying for medical services we'd rather pay for insurance (either through an employer plan or via taxes) than just pay what the service is worth, when we need it

I'm not debating it, I'm stating why insurance companies don't cover it.

Sorry, it was my brain going full pragmatism. It was mostly in response to the "it sucks to drain my bank account just to fix my teeth" comment.

If you're paying higher insurance rates or higher taxes to cover it, your account would still be just as drained, just you would have less disposable income. Basically, don't waste your money and you won't be "draining" your bank account.
