some may not be public, but like youtube people have wanted to get away from for years now. but nothing else is as widely used which offers the same revenue from content. if discord puts enough early money into this then pivot to videos then they could become a huge competitor.

i'm not going to pretend like i'm an expert but does discord have anywhere near the infastructure to do something like youtube

Even I still have my Let's Plays from back when I was in high school saved. The only videos I deleted were LPs for Chakan and Konami Wai Wai World, where I fucked up recording and audio didn't record for half of it, so I played music while doing post-commentary and it was the days were Youtube was like "Copyrighted music? DELETE OR BE DELETED," and Twitch VODs where I didn't notice I had personal information showing. They're absolute dogshit videos, but they're still there.
