We have a lot of trees
more excusable in meme chat
still inexcusable no one cares about biden
Pika, how often do you lose power?
Okay, how do you want to consider loosing power
for 2 seconds? Once every few months
the 2 second thing is worse ngl
for an actual amount of time, like once or twice a year
for 5-15 minutes
Horrible rainstorms
/ everything is fucking frozen
usually when a non-critical line goes down
and the system has to switch the load over
dolf, they have a big storm like that every like 10ish years
Rolling blackouts are the thing that is fucked, which I think most of the US got away from
I think the worst one I can remember in my lifetime was 45? minutes
like 5 years back
but when I lose power for 3 hours because a tree fell on our street's transformer.... again
it's whatever
that too
when Verizion came through to lay fibre ~10 years ago
they kept fucking up power cables
Replying to Kampfgruppe Kofewalt #zingly dolf, they have a big storm like that every like 10ish years
last time it was at that level was 1989
there was a big storm ten years ago
though I will agree they did fuck their by upping their power grid to 25% wind turbines not meant to be in wet and freezing conditions
close enough
at that level it doesn't matter
My favorite take I saw, hold on I need to find this
something about how the ISS uses solar panels, and that's in space
so Texas clearly did something wrong if they couldn't handle snow
I love the "but theirs wind turbines in antarctica"
theres a small number and its a dry frozen desert
We have a lot of wind turbines out in West Virginia
they're cool to watch spin
I don't think they generate much power at all though
we have a lot of turbines here too
they are indeed fun to watch
I wouldn't want to live near one, and from the stats I just looked up, ours are essentially worthless
but they're neat to drive by
it's hard but funny to get green energy firms to admit that even switching to mostly green energy still needs stable dirty load plants
I also say nuclear
solar panels are "faulty" because they last 40 years, and require significant maintenance after 10
and are also dirty as hell to make
I'd love to put a solar array in my back yard
but... it makes no financial sense
even with tax breaks
I'd be more interested in getting my own personal nuclear reactor
yeah be that nuclear eagle scout with the feds busting down on you
not for energy generation purposes or anything
but I think there's a lot of short range weaponry you could stage in this area of Virginia, that would completely bypass any defenses in DC
