This is a lot of assumptions buttt....if he is taking a plea deal, based on waiving counsel, then he may be just trying to get affairs in order until then. Or he may now be shopping around for a lawyer and plans to get counsel and fight.

If they have you as dead to rights as they seem to, plea deal or suicide are the only two valid options
