ik I'm the extreme outlier on a lot of tech stuff But seeing dead URL links for personal sites is just sad to me

I'm sure part of that is sites like GoDaddy and SquareSpace raping people with inflated fees

But for people who set things up right, and have it hosted cheaply or via GitHub or w/e

I just don't get it

When I was following some of Rob's links to other people in his former circles, TONs of them setup personal sites because Rob told them to, and most seem to have been shut down in 2023 or so

Even the simple portfolio type sites

Is there a way to download videos from the site at a lower level of quality? I don’t wanna rape my phone’s storage usage but I need some new listening material for my commute and was thinking of the old urealms uploads. Should I just find a half decent third party mp4 ripper?

I've not historically transcoded the videos into secondary (lower) resolutions because it was never really needed for most vids they are transcoded into MP4s on the site, but I just opt to keep the original resolution, which is 720p most of the time

but yeah, you can feed a channel or playlist URL into any mp4 downloader, and it will handle that easily, on the site itself there's no built-in bulk download only video-by-video DLs

This script pirate wrote was for people who don't have a DL program they like, and just wanted to do it via command line

let me know if you really need the Urealms vids transcoded lower-quality, I just don't think there'd be much space savings unless I REALLY cranked the artifacting

I think there's also a way I could potentially split the audio/video streams to be independent, but I never really saw the point of audio-only listening on the site and I think most DL programs will let you do that on your end in post-processing anyway
