and that's kinda been the trend his entire life, forge ahead and rebuild rather than looking back and trying to fix things

I was a very casual fan. I think I somehow managed to miss each of these things just by changing interests lol. I didn't watch the last urealms lives, found him again in his GTA rp content, and stopped watching that before it all fell apart, apparently. I honestly didn't know he had any breakdowns, let alone 2.
I think it's good that Rob's mostly off the internet now, I don't think he was ever going to conquer his deamons related to internet content creation, and was likely just going to end up spiraling again in a couple years
That is a common story "wow I didn't know any of this happened" is said a lot lol
People just get nostalgic for Rob, find the website, then end up here
it's absurd/tragic how unlucky Rob was at times, coupled with a few key bad decisions over the years
he had every opportunity to have broken out and been wildly successful, and just time and time again either picked the wrong path or had the slightly wrong timing
That's a big part of why he had to move on, he can still *exist* online or w/e, but the window for making career of it is over
and when he accepted that, and was able to slow down, I think that helped with his mental state and drug use quite a bit

Replying to Spooky Phijkchu #spooky.131 Toronto Canada
Well. yeah most likely. He's definitely an urban dweller and something like 70% of all canadians live in that region
Replying to Spooky Phijkchu #spooky.131 I'm never going to hold "being an asshole" against anymore, for the most part he's the same he's always been I agree with Pika he's dialed the drugs waaaayyyy back if not completely
Being an asshole vs taking advantage of people are very different worlds. Seems like most of his shit was exploiting and having money problems because of drugs
Replying to Spooky Phijkchu #spooky.131 he stopped taking his meds mind you
Nothing necessarily wrong with that. It is good to move off them. Just hope he had a plan around doing so instead of just hopping off.
Replying to Spooky Phijkchu #spooky.131 that's part of the reason so many people dislike Rob, because he was this hyper charismatic person that from their perspective froze them out suddenly one day, and they felt used where from Rob's perspective, that was inevitable because of the dynamic of working together (edited)
I am much the same way. Work and life are largely two different worlds. I have met about 2 people that were ever that exception to that rule.
The "funny" part about it is that Rob tells people he's like that and nobody believes it until something happens to them

This is what gets me the most having been around the followings for a long while. I stopped in the later years, but always hoped the best for the guy. He'd doubled down, have bad luck, ans or just make what would wind up being the wrong choices (addiction issues aside). He's a very talented and smart guy in ways. He's just sorta a grand dad almost to the evolution of internet content in those days and the opportunities he had that could have went big if he just managed himself a bit better and maybe was more socially structured could have led to big things for a time.

Just as true. He is at least sorta honest in that way. I think things could have gone better in some ways along the ways if the internet didn'g really lead to people blurring the lines of professionalism & friendship. People see it a lot closer than one may think due to parasocial outside of the normative work structures.
Spooky and others have said it before and I wholeheartedly agree: Rob‘s saving grace is that nobody ever speaks up about the bullshit

Rob's cohort of early internet creators are mostly gone now, but up until the last couple years he had back channels with so many massive people, or was at least a known quantity to them

and yeah, agree about the passion thing, that's well said
Rob colab'd with Kacytron of being sued by ethan klein fame
literal heavy hitters

I mean I have told my coworkers that. I get along with most everyone I have ever worked with, but I never go to parties for the most part and don't associate with them socially period. It always evolves into a mythology around my life outside work as a joke because I have always let little on as a private person, but as I said those are two different worlds. I have had plenty of people be very shocked I have called them acquaintances and not friends
As far as I am aware, Rob has done nothing with no one in a while
Did they even do their thanksgiving special last year?
If yes, then they probably will again this year, if not, its jover
They missed one year, but Crendor is pretty determined to keep it alive
I really like Crendor and hope he's well, I feel like he's been dealing with some shit for a while

Peak content

Actually I'm curious what's everyone's favourite individual piece of content / series
For me it's gotta be Rectangle N Isosceles Triangle

PML, though that probably shouldn't count
Some of the early GRR podcast stuff probably, idk if I have a *favorite* one though
ok yeah, Rob playing PMDGtI was peak
I think the cutscene only version was worse than the full stream version, though I get why Rob liked both
never watched that
honestly, Rob was just such a good streamer back then
he was well-practiced and was really nailing the timing and humor of everything
a lot of stuff in that same era was great, but PMD was just such a perfect balance of everything
My favorite thing was the moody bidoofs album but for actual series prolly the Y Nuzlocke

Urealms, but more the lore streams, behind the scenes and the fate worse than death...WHICH I STILL DONT KNOW!!!
Replying to Phijkchu_Pikachu #klombak niche choice is the stupid Pause x Rob DvZ training videos
Those were fun with how cracked the zombies were

Agreed. Hard to nail down a direct favorite set of content. Though as I said I think for pure entertainment it has to be pokemon content. And I have to also agree that pkmd were favorites. I always loved those games

That story line idea has been arounf for a hot minute. At least since OG URealms content went around. If I recall correctly. Just been well over a decade since I've really touched that content though

I watched Buffalo Wizards probably... twice over. And the Pokemon streams were always fun. - Those are my two.

I think people made it fall apart and the changes in monetization structure over time. As far as content goes as all things it just kinda happens. Granted content creators so have a chance of sorta growing with their audiences.
Now as for directionality it could have been different if they acknowledged what their primary lever of content was. Such is life though.
