We also don't take 2 years to campaign
reminder our election was called 2.5 weeks ago
and happened today
there is a mandatory amount of time in which you must call an election
which is 5? years iirc
you can call it whenever you want though
before that
it might be 4 years mandatory max now I forget
I think they passed some legislation making it 4, but I am not exactly sure
"When introducing the legislation, Harper stated that "fixed election dates prevent governments from calling snap elections for short-term political advantage. They level the playing field for all parties and the rules are clear for everybody."[7] However, despite the amendments to the legislation, the prime minister is still free to request an election at any time. As the amendments to the Canada Elections Act clearly state "Nothing in this section affects the powers of the Governor General, including the power to dissolve Parliament at the Governor General's discretion","
so they did do that
elections must be called on the third monday in october 4 calendar years after the last one, however, government can still call snap elections
Replying to Phijkchu_Pikachu #klombak it might be 4 years mandatory max now I forget
The worst punishement known to man
but yeah anyways that legislation is funny
it was passed, but legally cannot stop them from doing early elections
making it worthless
The Canadian election that Spooky wants
Pika, I love this election coverage
there was a literal mistake where incorrect results were sent
and they're just accepting it
they put it in their count and everything
I think that just means those seats are not voted for yet
so they are "-131" down from last time as of right now
I figured they killed all the MPs
5 mps have been forced to quit as far as I know
2 ndp guys posted anti jew shit and got kicked out
a few libs for sexual assult things
and the mistake was something else
they explained it that one of the districts reported their votes hours ago, and there being no update since
oh lol
so they're just going with it
unirronically
and I don't understand how they can say that with a straight face
its the maritime votes right now, no one gives a shit about that part
"someone will probably update this later, or perhaps it's the correct tally and it just got counted out of order"
the votes that are coming in right now basically do not matter
the wrong district was out West I think
in some Arab town
well that is also not cared about
ontario and quebec
they already reported a final count
are the two that matter
but yeah, I forgot how borring election coverage is
yeah
especially when it actually does not matter
if trudeau wins, more of the same, if conservatives win, more of the same but less blackface
if NDP wins
lmfao
good joke
and BQ can't win
because they only run in Quebec
greens get a few seats
every election
usually in rural BC or something
I don't actually know what PPC is
they are a new party
I think they're the actual conservatives
I know nothing about your politics, other than I'd like Trudeu to lose
That makes sense, current conservatives branding message is "we're not your dads conservatives"
at least from the single political ad I saw
oh, starting to get some results in from ontario and quebec
the real politicing happens now
I mean, in a country like Canada idk how you even differentiate the parties
same way you differentiate yours, superficially
considering they are all corperatists
I feel like parties can run on single issues
which is kind of a British thing too I guess
BQ is like texas running a candidate for president and getting enough success that they can force the conservatives to form a coalition party with them to win
