the 2nd part to the bill I'm also broadly in-favor of
for non-porn sites, if you don't age-gate your site, you have a bunch of requirements to protect kids
I think as long as they action reports in a timely manner
it's probably in-compliance
if anything, it will lead to youtube being even more ban happy to avoid noncompliance
This is YouTube kids Pika
I don't think they're making 2 different AI checkers
Yes, they 100% already do
Pika, YouTube kids is like 0-7 y/o content
I know. I just think youtube will still ramp up moderation sitewide slightly
In general I like the idea of pushing the lower-tier kids off the big internet, and moving them to dedicated apps that are just4kids
This does (actually) empower parents to control when their kids are able to use the internet
I don't neccecarily disagree, I don't like how they are doing it
not sure what a better option would be
Do you just dislike CC verification?
don't have one
also I shouldn't have to give a website anything to use it
For my credit union. I doubt it
Depends how they implement it Leg, bots have an easier time spinning up debit cards
so more of those verification sytems are CC only now
Also, I'm obviously opposed to the idea of requiring verification to use a computer (which this is not), but it would be easier rather than verifying site-by-site, to verify once at the OS level or the browser level, and have that signal/flag be provided to sites "yes this user is a non-bot, non-kid"
Just do it in person at the store level, since 95+% of people are not building their own PC. Have adult only PC's with it prechecked as adult that you have to use your ID to buy Kappaa
there problem solved
I really do think everyone would benefit from having a kid internet
Pedophiles would benefit (concentrated targets), non pedophiles would benifit (no kids around)
win win
I agree
I think the pedophile fears for all of this are just funny too, "what if pedophiles set up sites to verify kids' ages and use that nefariously"
type replies
I mean fundamentally, none of this is about kids anyways
its a roundabout porn ban
it's not
appak
I'm not even super anti-porn
but this is clearly not a porn ban
there were other crackdowns which hurt dedicated porn sites in the past, and tha AI deepfake stuff will hurt porn sites
but they also just... don't comply with any of this
because they're all piracy sites too
it's like asking if Nyaa is going to age restrict their site access to kids
they're obviously not
They should though
I think it would be funny how mad people would be (me included)
also, most important part of the bill
@taxes
this is real
Replying to Spooky Phijkchu #spooky.131 It's not, because grifters
i know what it's "meant" to be but it's a foot in the door, you start with the easy targets then expand the scope. i just am against this kind of thing as well. parents should just parent their kids.
I think it's really hard (borderline impossible) to control the internet, so I'm less worried about the slippery slope here
but that's the optimist in me, I don't think this needs the best intentions to be broadly good, and I think if anything this will have positive effects one-two rungs out from the massive commercial sites that are actually effected by the bill directly
Anyway, the LHC is shut down for 4 years, Steins Gate is safe. https://www.sciencenews.org/article/cern-large-hadron-collider-upgrade
CERN shutters the Large Hadron Collider for a major transformation
The High-Luminosity LHC, planned to switch on in 2030, could help physicists unravel mysteries about the Higgs boson, dark matter and more.
www.sciencenews.orgRIP @heir's job
Aren't they still building the super collider that is like 10x as big
or was that never actually happening
They are upgrading it
That is true
I'd have to rewatch it at this point
Replying to Kribbles #kribbles1 Anyway, the LHC is shut down for 4 years, Steins Gate is safe. https://www.sciencenews.org/article/cern-large-hadron-collider-upgrade
this is the thing that could potentially create a black hole and kill everyone right? i've been waiting for it to happen
and even if you did, it would not kill everybody
it would be so small it would dissipate pretty fast
No, but it is already considered unlikely since it has no experimental evidence
