I work with a guy, he's 45-50ish, just had his first daughter, probably ~2 y/o
and he was bragging to me that he's gotten his wife on-board with not taking a single picture of their kid
because he's convinced the photos will get hacked, and some pedophile will steal them
and sell them on the darknet
I don't even try to reason with parents, every problem I've heard from them always seemed completely insane
even growing up, I feel like every interaction I had with other parents were always weird
People either had absolutely no freedom, and were micromanaged wards of their parents
Or their parents were deadbeats who had given up before they turned 3
and sure, some kids are retards for longer before they become critically-aware or w/e
but I just don't think there's any hope for some collective improvement on parenting
I don't think the government needs to do anything, but these stupid "protect the kid" measures are wildly popular
so same with environmental BS or animal rights, I just don't care
let people play pretend with politics, as a trade for getting actual shit done
and real people will just continue to ignore the dumb laws
Convincing people that their base instincts about kids, pets, and nature are wrong is too intellectual for the average person

the good thing is that it tends to be cyclical, and we sort of just loop between giving things away and then immediately regretting it and wanting them back
or the inverse, where we fight hard to make something more permissive, and then immediately start rolling it back when we realize it sucks
