I think the part of the whole discussion that frustrates me is that its never people from MN weighing in on what they want for their state, it's always chuds from other states blindly cheering on ICE. Immigration is hard because its inherently interstate, and you have multiple states that are skirting the line of cooperating with the feds, and I sort of do think they should escalate, but there's also basically zero long-term planning behind any of this to begin with, so escalating without a plan is just cathartic and not actually going to achieve anything which is why they ultimately didn't imo. Separate, I do think the federal government would have justification to completely cut off all federal dollars flowing into Minnesota, until a federal commission audits for fraud, and I do think that would have enough of an effect to force cooperation along limited lines if you did it in a non-completely-inflammatory sorta way

So the whole arguement falls apart when peole talk about this at all. People haven't realized that gor mass deportations to be effective and cause the least amount of collateral they need to be broadly strategically smart. Which means being more static. Camping the social services (Banking, Hospitals, Schools, Liscensing, Ect) and vetting people trying to get state based benefits and using the existing powers of the patriot act to essentially wash out the vast majorities of illegals/immigrants on systems meant for the citizenry. People get pissed about it because it is a shittily planned & run tactical response to a strategic problem. Fundamentally unsound approach to the situation. This also exasturbates the inexperience of the hires being brought onboard. They should also have strictly started in Red & Purple states to see just how deep the fraud goes while securing electoral power. Because there is very real systemic issues in the voting system regarding immigrants. The baseline is that immigration law NEEDS to be enforced because of the sheer scale of fraud and disenfranchisement of peoples here. But this all could have been done in a way where it is the feds choking out the monetary side to force these people to simply leave. Raids will always fail due to the scale and the general rights of states. If people go out of their way to attack them at the social services then it is very obviously terroristic and will force police to be involved to allow everyone legal general access to these places, but only the shitheels dependent on the systems who take advantage of it would need to be there often. Also this could have coincided with the suspension of the doles until proof of citizenship is reviewed and benefits reapplied. Essentially a general forensic audit. I do agree with most of the below though. All that stuff is my general vent on it. It is a needlessly dumb issue because it is retarded on all fronts.

A lot of the things people are mad at aren't even really related to illegal immigration either, there are so many related issues and broad-scale illegal immigration is the one with the least political inertia to solve

The macro effects are pretty obviously bad

but a lot of them are also these very abstract concepts that are hard to get your average person to understand or care about

so both sides start to link issues together, and then people oppose these new frankenstein positions that are only barely related to illegal immigration in the first place
