It took about 8 hours of work to get VS Code slightly on par with Overleaf, but I never use VS Code so I'm not familiar with any of its shitty quirks

I like the number of templates Overleaf has, but I also don't use latex that much day-to-day

there's the learning curve of how to setup build orders and the need to fix the broken spellchecking extension but with no knowledge that shouldn't take an entire day

About 3 hours to download latex, bibtex, and pdflatex with all of those packages because we have roughly 100Kbps max bandwidth. Then, because no program can access the internet programmatically, I needed to download a bunch of those vsix extension files until it would work

used incorrectly is mostly down to, parents/relatives only gift some funds at birth, and then they sit there and invested automatically with a bad target year curve.
