I still think you vastly overestimate how many Canadians would be okay with just becoming the US

if the US did literally anything to lay long-term incentives for Canadian annexation
then it would be real, but they're not so it isn't
I do think if Canada actually focused on fixing their problems
it's a very achievable goal to not be in a position where the meme even elicits a reaction
but with how bad things are everywhere in Canada right now, the prospect of it getting worse, of not having a single politician stand up and even point it out
that's how you get to a significant minority of the population wanting to leave, especially younger people who want to go work for American companies anyway
and are hoping beyond hope that the cross-border visa programs aren't cut in the next year or two
I looked it up, 40% of Canadian college graduates (4-year degrees) either receive US citizenship (likely by marriage) or are on a work Visa in US/Mexico (tracked together), 1-year after graduating
this includes Canadians studying at US colleges and abroad, which accounts for ~10% of Canadian grads
this does not exclude Candian 4-year degree recipients who immediately enter post-secondary degree programs
that's in no way saying "40% of young people want to leave" or anything radical like that
but it's a trend that to me says "a significant portion of those with the means to leave Canada would rather start their life in America"
Yeah, the US economy is better
People who are starting their career will always go where more money is a majority of the time
(same reason shitter indians want to flood better countries)
I also just want to say, I really like Canada, in case that wasn't obvious

Here's the first big test, does Trump obey the supreme court, or force congress to force him
The fact that Trump also does not know the fact that Canadian elections are not set in stone is funny, and the retarded boomers who read this will assume Trudeau is trying to become a dictator
"I then realized he is trying to use this issue to stay in power" very clearly reads "he is planning on there being no election"
I don't really think its an issue that he does not know thats how it works, 99.9% of Americans do not, and you people wouldn't either if you did not have to put up with me occasinally explaining Canadian politics lol
But that would not imply staying in power, unless you say "trump is trying to use this issue to stay in power" because he is not immediately stepping down as president early, which he has the ability to
at least I assume he can do it, since democrats were begging biden to do it so that you could have your first female president if only briefly
He said he was not running as leader again
In practice, it is only used two ways
one, normally, where the election is vaguely every 4 years
or two, as a power move "I want to do this thing, and I believe so strongly the public will support it so winning this election will be a mandate to proceed"
It in theory gives a governement who perhaps only won a minority government, but did enough to earn public support, to shift into a majority government by earning more seats, allowing them to pass laws easier
Since you guys do not really have the same notion of minority and majority government, such a system does not really make sense in the US, but it is logical for our system
I think the frustration is that 2/3 of the money was promised away while Biden was a lame duck president
and now Trump and the Dep of Commerce would rather control where it goes
