BREAKING: The University of Iowa announces the official closure of its Gender Studies Department.
twitter.comI've been doing some reading on different types of US Visas, our system is really poorly setup
H1B and H2B visas should be abolished though, they're duplications of other visa types and only seem to exist to give companies something to abuse
Also, I learned that we have a "diversity visa" program, which is literally a scam run by the State Department to allow ambassadors and consulars to sell citizenship for cash under the table
different from the normal way to buy citizenship via "investment in the US economy" aka "be upper-middle class or above"
this is the diversity visa list from last year
we accepted ~50% of these applicants (55k), most of whom likely paid for preferential treatment at an embassy/consulate and bribed someone for $1,000-$5,000
this is not tech related at all
that's a different program
this is also not the normal visa lottery
this is a side lottery that I genuinely think is just to allow ambassadors to take bribes
but yeah, our system is bad, there aren't even that many visa types (I was expecting there to be dozens)
but the whole thing should probably be redone
Our system was great
then it was modified because companies wanted more indians to drive wages down
A company of any size should be allowed to sponsor foreign workers for permanent unskilled work visas
they should be capped at '2' (+1 per 100 employees), including contract and subcontract work
keep the same requirements that the visa needs to be renewed annually, and after some number of years have it convert into permanent residency like it does now
So Microsoft, with 140,000 US employees, could have 1,402 visa slots, and on average would turn-over ~200/year as they convert
compared to the 30,000 they have now
tune the numbers or w/e, but that seems like a good foundation, then protect against companies abusing it
the other general visa categories are broadly:
- Exceptionally skilled
- Moderate net-worth
- Marriage/family
- Service to America
which are all non-work related visas
I feel marriage visa abuse is less of an issue than the loopholes for work visas
the only protection, is that if you get divorced within some number of years, you lose it
but yeah, obviosuly abused, but globally is kind of required
Canada's problem is international student visa abuse
I am not sure if that is as much of an issue in the US
oh right, educational visas
but that is how they get in here
ours are better than yours, degree mills don't get you citizenship like they do in Canada
but it still needs to be redone
They don't do that here either
the issue is they come in, then claim they will be persecuted if they get sent back for some bullshit reason and request they not be sent back
which has to go to the courts
I thought the degree mill thing was one of the things Canadians were the most mad about
Our system needs an overhaul, but the governement does not do it because the corperations want them here to drive wages lower and to prop up housing prices
degree mills is how they get in, but how they stay is not that
that you can get a nothing 2-year degree from a school that doesn't exist, and then get a 3-year residency visa after you graduate
oh interesting if it's mostly the persecution thing
in general, I think Asylum/persecution status should not be granted en-masse
Its not granted en mass, the problem is it is also not denied on mass
so the courts are clogged
which means they are defacto allowed to stay until each one is sorted
The main issue is, despite on paper being "required to be able to afford living in Canada for the duration of your studies without working", they were allowed to work
a full ban on working, and strict punishments on any company that is found to have any of them working, would fix the system
but again, the politicians do not want that, because they want the corperations to make money
And having 6 inidians being willing to live in a 1 bedroom apartment rented out at 4k/month is profitable for the politicians, 60% of which are directly invested in housing
They don't
they just want wages to be lower to maximize profit
there is no fix other than telling them to fuck off
I think there should be creative ways to get foreign US university graduates converted, without allowing the system to get flooded with Indian street shitters
Cap how much you can work while here so only people who have finanical backing come to western schools
that gets rid of 80% of economic migrants coming here
Also set caps on what % of student body can be international students
Grad students exempt
they are not the issue leg
Random street shitter indians are not doing grad school, even meme ones most of the time
yeah, I'm actually fine with banning foreigners from 2-year degrees altogether
4-year accredited colleges with tuition in excess of some threshold
should be the minimum
The schools that are the issues are not schools like Uwaterloo, it is the meme colleges
