If the US is taking us over, there is no more Canada
so it actually only would affect the US
Your countries problems and my countries problems are pretty distinct
your country taking over would likely not fix our problems other than maybe our dollar by forcing us to use yours, and would likely import some of your problems
If it was just a strict improvement I think people would be more willing, but at the very theoretical best, its kind of just a side grade
