people are overblowing the whole thing in Syria, BECAUSE they want the US to get more involved imo
these are US-backed rebels, but there's been no actual fighting or exchange of arms in years
they captured a handful of outposts near the capital, and ig their hope is by making a move before Trump takes office, there's at least a chance of them getting more support/money
