I've been trying the new Rhythm Heaven game

I'm a little surprised how low-budget it feels

The DS one was the first rhythm heaven I played, and I was expecting at least that level of, idk, polish?

coupled with just how absolutely barren everything feels

I'd sorta bet Nintendo had another plan for how to do Rhythm Heaven, and backtracked into make it this packaged game at some point

every remix in rythm heaven fever had a unique themeing

and every minigame got reskinned to fit that theme

every remix also had a well made custom theme that was very well done

only some of the minigames are reskinned for flavor in this

and even then none of them are really even comparable to the best of fever

a lot of the minigames also seem to lack a certain "punch" to them

like most rythm heaven minigames are like a lot of soft beats and then a STRONG one

but a lot of the strong punchy ones are

nonexistently shallow

it's hard to deconstruct good/bad rhythm games, it's a mix of a lot of things but the only good one in the first 9 games in Groove is the umbrella game, and the frog one is passable if it was the 1st level and got theme variations for the mixes

So far, only 2? I think even try to play with off-beats or have multiple different response types

on-top of a lot of their theming and music is just mid at best

The most fun part of the game so far is the first music box clapping game, and it's lacking even basic score-tracking like the DS/Wii games had for those

I like to imagine that the budget was so low that someone higher up recommended using stock art, and then it became a shitpost injoke with the dev team to insert more and more stock art, to egregious amounts for some of the rhythm games for the laughs.
