I kinda fw it, my first thought after seeing them were the puppets they used to use. Though I wish Star Fox would do something more akin to Assault still. I did like the original style, but I dont mind the new one if it stays just in this game. After all its Star Fox 64 for like, the 3rd time now? Might as well change it up.
