i almost got PLA to build in a vm with someone else once it's working i wonder if anyone will make pc pokemon romhacks using the engine and source code

Depends on how hard the TPC tries to squash a romhacking community, and how much general interest is in it.

The decomp project hasn't been hit that hard at all, but that's all really old games

really old + they bana nyone that has ever seen leaks from working on them

the pokemon decomp repos for gens 1-4 are up because of that

and theyre super strict on it

I think romhacking Sc/V would get more general interest then PLA, but I could see both doing well.

Although the gen 5/3 hacks are way safer to play for streamers and youtubers, gamefreak would go hard on striking switch hacks I think.
