the thread goes into that
the cool looking sword is some cheap piece of crap you can get for 100 bucks
the machete was probably made to be dull enough that the clothing would server as adequate protection
yep, showing up to a duel was pretty much all that you needed to do
outside of serious grudges, they were usually pretty tame
well even that, usually the point was just to show up
then they'd shoot at your feet or to your side
I think the total mortality rate of duels was <10%
yeah the one guy got his kneck cut

I'll frame it this way, I think <10% of people got hit by a bullet in a duel
the point really is to just show up
both sides air their greivences for onlookers
and usually their friends (seconds) have convinceed one to apologize ahead of time
the most common was to shoot up in the air
essentially translates to "I'm sorry"
and "I accept your apology"
