tiny nuclear reactors are actually not enough to power a single house
The ones we put on space probes are a bit smaller than that, but they cap out at ~2kW
there are bigger ones that have been concepted by NASA/CSA, but those cap out at 10kW and might be a little larger than that egg
yeah, the scale that actual nuke plants operate is absurd
idk if you've ever seen one in person
they're massive, and the number of reactions going on at a time is crazy
also, memes aside we looked into making something like that egg back in college
with non-controled isotopes
we wanted it to be as powerful as a potato clock
university didn't sign off on it though, because anything "radioactive" was a no-go
I think the issue was, the Aero/Mining departments had a monopoly on on-campus nuclear stuff, since WVU is big into space mining research
and as a lowly EE, they didn't want to let another department get in on that
and also because our pitch was a little bit stupid and Nazi themed
The current tech push is modular reactors, so you chain a lot of smaller recators together
as far as I'm aware
