I think 1080p is fine, I understand why people go 4k though too
if you want it to double as a "I can play a movie on this and have it look good as fuck" screen

HDR is something that will be mainstream in <5 years
but is fairly poorly implemented right now
to be fair with monitors, nothing stops you from getting a second better monitor in the future
and this one just becomes a secondary monitor then
so future proofing is dumb

Samsung and LG are the top panel manufactures
then you have all the gayming brands like MSI, Acer, ASUS, Gigabyte, etc.
Through Dell in there too I guess
If you want something that will feel like an upgrade I'd spend ~$200 and get something new that's 1080p 144HZ or higher
