I ended up using openmediavault and it creates user folders essentially for sharing things, which is cool, but it wouldnt let the sharing folder be the root of the drive so i have to go put all the existing files into its folder

So i had to try a bunch of different shit, and couldnt get ftp, midnight commander, or rsync to do what I needed. Finally got portainer running and got a stack for it that works, its just slow
