Personally my recommended watch-order if you're doing the Remake first is once you've finished DNT, watch 10 episodes of Dexter's Laboratory, then go to episode 40. Dexter's Lab is necessary to watch since Dexter's Dad is the middle ground of Admiral Dad. He is 50% OVA Caserne, and 50% DNT Caserne. Watching the OVA without watching Dexter's Lab will make the character design differences too jarring.
