so my grocery store had a digital wheel and I won a free pack of american cheese slices for instance, and I had to answer a basic middleschool level math question to claim it
Its a legal loophole to make it not gambling
you did not win because you won a funny dice roll, nonono, you won it because you can do math at a middleschool level

its better than Quebec, where their laws just make it so all sweepstakes say "residents of the USA and Canada (Excluding Quebec)"

The reason, btw, is because by Quebec law anyone giving away a sweepstake must pay of percentage of it to the government of Quebec
so they just don't run them in Quebec
a tax is an effective ban
at least for giveaways
