I got the paper that lets me take the knowledge test, that was the only thing I could do on this trip

so how does this work in NJ, you got a form, do you just sign it and take it back to the DMV?

and then they give you your permit

You fill in a catch all form for photo id, permits, and one other thing I forget what it is, and then they give you what they call the "initial permit" which allows you to take the knowledge test. Once you pass the knowledge test you can get the proper learner's permit, and then it's a required 3 month wait before I can start attempting the road test, once I pass I have to return to the dmv with the stamped permit papers to get the "Probationary Driver's License" which I have for a year before I can upgrade to a regular one

All because New Jersey wants to make it difficult for no reason
