so that 20%, isn't from the federal government, it's from the state government, who collect it from you via state taxes
the federal government has a program though, where they will pay the state back the tax dollars they spend on education, if people score good on standardized tests
those federal tax dollars are also paid by you btw
don't forget
but it's a way for the state government to make "extra" money, without raising taxes on you directly
they just get a share of federal tax dollars
but so in actuality, I think almost 100% of states, don't adjust school year-to-year funding based on test scores
but administration will get in trouble and lose their jobs, because as state employees they cost the state money
so to them it's THE MOST IMPORTANT THING EVER
and they lie and tell you its about school funding
(yes I'm sure there are corner cases of 1% swings here or there to make it technically not a lie)

Replying to Dialga #god_of_time i don't think i should have, but i was very frustrated with my school at the time and i hated going in the first place. because it was extremely boring and i also got some amount of bullying, though not physical abuse. so my issues werent funding related issues
ik we've talked about it before, but I don't think school is some sanctified thing "the only possible way to educate and prepare someone for the real world" neither is college whatever ended up working for you clearly worked for you
I think as long as the default system for most people who don't have time to think about this sort of stuff is trustworthy and efficient, we've done a good job
not there yet, but it's also not the dark ages like some people claim it is
imo, school's not about finding a job, it's about getting you to a point where you can solve problems and come to solutions
ofc basic skills too, how to read/write/articulate an idea, how to do math, basics on how the world works, what's expected of you, etc.
I get that's some ideal view, I really don't want it to come across as out of touch
you have a GED and work experience though
to me, that's enough to be a viable hire for non-specialized labour
I think that's the majority view as well
the job market always sucks, waiting for "the right job" drives people crazy

I didn't watch boogie way back, but once he started the "I'm being open about my sexual life" I feel like he lost most people's favour
every time I'd see him, it would be as a guest on a podcast/stream, just detailing graphic fat people sex
The main thing that got people to turn on him was when people realized the "nice friendly fat guy" persona he was doing for years was fake
and that he was actually a pretty vicious person
people liked his rage skits though
even I had seen a couple of those

until like 5-6 years ago where that act fell apart, and he's been spiraling ever since

his rationale was "I want to be more real"
